Perry, FL Area

Goodman’s BBQ – Perry FL
Goodman’s is good!  Tried the sampler platter as an appetizer – comes with two each mozzarella sticks, fried baked potatos, corn nuggets, stuffed jalapenos, and delicious broccoli cheese kadoodles.  All these yummies for a mere $5.95.
The rib-eye was seasoned perfectly and oh so tender. Meals come with your choice of potato and slaw or salad.  Don’t forget to ask for some cobbler; it is complimentary with meals.  Goodman’s provides a great deal for a fantastic meal.

Forest Capital State Museum – 2 Chicas say they’re not soup crackers!

The drive up US 98 was pretty quiet except for a few huge trucks carrying even larger timber.
The Forest Capital Museum celebrates the logging industry that dominates this part of the state.
On the grounds of this museum is an old homestead cracker house built in around 1864.
The people were called crackers because of the sharp sound the whips made.
They used these whips to herd cattle, but Chica 2 sees this tool as a fun way to discipline Chica 1. Don’t get any ideas… Tee hee hee
The park is surrounded by trees and the museum is made up of a local wood. The museum is open Thursday through Monday so make sure you go on one of those days.
Dekele Beach – 2 Chicas ask What Beach?
After a leisurely drive down SR 361, the 2 Chicas saw a sign announcing Dekele Beach and decidedto go explore.  A red shouldered hawk flew in front of the car and the two of us were hooked!

The low savannah plains around the area were ripe with wildflowers and the birds were out singing about their wonderful life of freedom.
An egret chased another bird out his area and looked back at us quizzically as if to ponder should he run us away as well.
After nosing around the area it became apparent there was no public beach area.
There was a sign on the gravel access road honoring a family killed in the “No Name Storm” of 1993.
The sign was a weathered reminder of how fragile and temporary life can be.
Bummer.   Back to Hwy 98 and our next adventure.
