Fanning Springs

2 Chicas and a Steel Bridge
This historic spring is on the banks of the Suwannee River.  There are large open areas as well as picnic, playground, a boardwalk, and a gazebo.
As with all parks, there are trails for hiking and keep your eyes open for a quick glimpse of local wildlife.
Prior to entering the springs, check out the park next door.
The walk down to the river is steep, so be sure to watch your step. There are steps down as well as a metal ramp.
That ramp is super precipitous and we can only imagine how it must be when wet. A quick tumble into the river or worse, a painful landing on the rocks!
The old bridge is nicely preserved in the park as a reminder of yester year, and has been replaced by a concrete structure.
If you want to explore the surrounding locale, rent a cabin and see what kind of fun you can get into in good old Levy County.
Fort Fanning – 2 Chicas don’t like a War
This site was established in 1838 as a military strategy to protect this neck of the woods during the Second Seminole War.
The entrance is a reconstruction of the original fort doorway.
It’s free and right across the street from Fanning Springs.
Walk the paths and enjoy the Suwannee River. Yes, in this little piece of heaven, it is all about the Suwannee River.

Please leave us your thoughts!
