Grand Canyon

2 Chicas Skim the South Rim

To say breathtaking is so cliché. There is no place in America as beautiful or amazing, or at least the 2 Chicas think so at this point. The Grand Canyon definitely should be on everyone’s bucket list.
Why wouldn’t you want to spend time in one of the seven natural wonders of the world? How is it possible that the Colorado River carved this spectacular marvel with a little help from shifting and lifting rocks?
Well with the 2 Chicas, nothing is ever too simple, so prior to getting to the Grand Canyon, we stopped at an Indian Trading post so that

Chica 1 could have bathroom break and Chica 2 could do her best to find that ever elusive peace pipe.
Chica 2, always mischievous, only wanted the peace pipe if it came with heritage blend pipe tobacco, so she left empty handed, and
Chica 1 was in hot pursuit of turquoise anything. After a little fun at the outpost, the 2 Chicas remembered they had bigger things to chase.
Thank goodness we finally got to the park because the drive isn’t very memorable. Well, the 2 Chicas learned a financial lesson pretty quickly. If you plan on going to 3 or more national parks, it is cheaper to purchase the annual pass.
Anyhoo, the 2 Chicas took a scenic drive through the park, which takes some time if you stop at the overlooks and take pictures.
We also got a good look at the Grand Canyon train and would highly recommend booking this excursion ride. Also for an extra special treat, stay in one of the lodges on site.
They have great history and provide high quality, depending on which you choose, actually luxurious accommodations.

Chica 2 wanted to take a donkey ride down to the bottom of the canyon, but as you will see later, God stepped in and saved the day.
After driving so far, we had to get a bite to eat in the Delicatessen at the Marketplace, went next door to the gift shop, and then mailed a postcard back home.
Chica 1 read about a female architect who designed many of the buildings onsite, including the observation tower so 2 Chicas decided that would be our next destination.
Once we arrived at the Desert View Watchtower, we walked up the stairs to the top of the tower, admired the wall drawings along the way, and looked in awe at the grandeur of the canyon. You won’t be alone in this architectural wonder breathless and limited in your speech.
Chica 2, though, never at a loss for words, squealed in delight – “this is big” and “it’s so pretty”.

Yes, dearest Chica 2, it is bigger than gigantic, larger than immense, as it is colossal and humungous!
It is truly beautiful, gorgeous, stunning, and dazzling. You really have to see it for yourself to understand.
Next a quick stop in the gift shop at the base of the tower and off we went to our next destination in the park, or so we thought. Now mind you, it is the last week of May, and much to our surprise, we step out of the shop into fresh falling snow.

It was coming down pretty hard and heavy and as we drove back to the welcome station, the rangers were discussing evacuating some of the tent campers because it was projected to snow a few feet.

That’s what 2 Chicas love about nature, it is in control and there’s nothing you can do about it, but to enjoy it.

Chica 2 tossed some snow in the air and as quickly as she played in the flurry, she was ready to go!
Don't forget to let everyone know 2 Chicas said let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
